Tigers Chase Jaguars

Byfields Rumbar Racing emerged victorious at the final round of the Classic and Sports car Swinging Sixties endurance race at Silverstone last weekend when the 1964 Sunbeam Tiger driven by local men Kevin Cooper and Adrian Mossop took the final round V8 class win and fourth overall.

The overall race was won by a lightweight E Type Jaguar but the Woodford Tool and Plant Hire sponsored Tiger chased it to the line with more weight , less power and less grip.  Mossop, the second driver commented: It was a great race in what has turned out to be a very competitive car for 2007. I am very pleased for Kevin and for the sponsors but most of all for the Rumbar Racing team who have worked very hard this year.

We are delighted for our new sponsors - SKYTECH HELICOPTERS and WOODFORD TOOL AND PLANT HIRE.

Well done boys - Job done!

MEACHEN TAKES TO SINGLE SEATERS

Mick Meachen took part in his first ever single seater race at Silverstone on the 22nd September. Mick who entered a recently built Vauxhall Lotus in the 2 litre class in the new series Formula Free qualified a respectable 17th on the grid after struggling with gear selection problems.

The race saw a positive start and a sensible approach by Meachen to settling into the new car saw him work his way up to an impressive 12th overall and 4th in class - Bearing in mind the level of competition from the likes of Ray Rowan, Adrian Desoutter, Goodman and McClurg thats good going for a rookie and a sign of whats to come next year.

JOHN GOES FULL ON

Dave John enthusiastically entered most of the races at Silverstone on the 22nd September in his BMW M3 and for good reason - he won his class in most of them! - With the bonus of 7th overall and 13th overall in a full grid of impressive cars was good going. Dave was delighted with the results even though he had to contend with an electrical miss fire for most of the day. Imagine what it can do when it runs right! It was also a great result in front of Skytech Helicopters who came along and enjoyed the day with the team.

MITCHELL GETS THE JOB DONE

Alex Mitchell had a storming day in the 40 min endurance race- qualifying well and driving like a demon to claim 2nd in class in an extremely competitive race. The positions were gained when Mitchell did a lightning pit stop and regained with blistering pace. Mitchell said : the car is just getting better and better and then dribbled!!

Nice 1 Alex
