NICK STEPHENS

Nick Stephens has just completed his second season of sprinting where he won the Midland Speed Championship in Class SA (Standard cars up to 1400cc). This is the second year that he has won the championship, after a very successful novice year in 2003. In all Stephens has also obtained 4 class records in 2004 at the welsh circuits of Ty Croes, Pembrey & Llandow plus also the very tight a tricky country park course at Llys y Fran in Pembrokeshire. “I was a lot more confident in the car this year” says Stephens “ and the other competitors, in the championaship,  were very helpful in discussing lines, braking points at all the rounds. So I really enjoyed myself this year”.

2005 sees a new direction with the purchase of a circuit racing 1380 Mini. “I have always wanted to race a Min” enthuses Stephens “And I never thought that I would be able to, but this car came along and before I knew what was happening I was at a test day at Lydden on 19th March”. (Stephens obtained his MSA race licence at Rockingham Raceway in February.) Unfortunately, this was not a very successful outing. Fine spring-like weather brought a reasonable first test session with times on road tyres only a second or so off the pace, but a cooling problem meant that the test session ended early. Some engine work was necessary, now the car is being rebuilt and should be ready for the rest of the 2005 season.
